Looking for mid-weight wool socks?
Merino wool will keep you warm with low bulk.
I got a chance to test out the Meindl MT6 Mid-Weight Merino Wool Socks and this is how well they performed.
Over four decades I have hiked and wandered anywhere wild. Walking distances can be hard on your feet. The correct footwear and the great socks are imperative. Not all socks are created equal. Cheap cotton socks might be fine on a mall shopping trip, but outside they general fail miserably. What is needed is a tough built sock that has outdoor enthusiasts in mind.
Want to know more about a great pair of socks? Lets first take a look at what Meindl says about them:
These are our go to socks when traveling light and fast on the trail, or simply knocking around in the outdoors. These 9″ tall 3mm thick 3.0 ounce technical trekking socks are designed and built with Meindl’s legendary quality and attention to detail. Made with two-layer construction that combines just enough Merino Wool to get all the soft, moisture-wicking and odor-absorbing benefits and an organic bioceramic yarn that helps wick away moisture and regulate temperature of your feet. These boot-height socks are anatomically designed to fit your right and left foot (and marked accordingly), no one-shape-fits-all here. By fitting the shape of your individual feet, these socks not only feel better, they also allow your boots to fit better. Essentially, they eliminate extra fabric that causes regular socks to wad up and cause friction areas. We’ve also added cushioning on the bottom and reinforcements to the heel and toe areas for added comfort and durability. No detail was left unaddressed in designing and making these socks. Made in Italy.
24% Merino Wool, 24% Acrylic, 21% Polyamid, 15% Bioceramic, 13% Polypropylene, 3% Elastic for a bit of stretch.
Sizes: Large (8-10.5), Extra Large (11-14)
I was sent two pairs of Meindl MT6 Mid-Weight Merino Wool Socks for thorough testing. First thing I noticed is the toes are marked for right and left foot. This is a really good idea as over time your big toe tends to stretch out socks and form a custom fit. This way you can enjoy that custom fit. Also, these socks fit in any regular sized footwear you own. They are not bulky and need footwear to be “a size up” like other sock options. This comes in handy to extend the season for your regular favorite hiking boots.
The overall construction of the Meindl MT6 Mid-Weight Merino Wool Socks is impressive. Before wear, I washed the socks inside out per included instructions. Then it was game on for the thorough testing.
I found the Meindl MT6 Mid-Weight Merino Wool Socks to be very comfortable. They allowed the use of my favorite warmer weather hiking boots but I was still warm in cooler temperatures. The construction was top notch and they stayed in place and were not “quitters” sliding down on a long rigorous hike.
I found the Meindl MT6 Mid-Weight Merino Wool Socks to be top notch socks for the outdoor enthusiast. Warmth and cushioning, without the bulk!
